Jon Bernthal has been on a tear recently, featuring in over sixteen different projects just over the last two years, with his big hits including Baby Driver and the upcoming Punisher TV show. He has just recently signed on to join the cast of First Man, which is a biopic that will focus on the life Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon.
Armstrong is an extremely famous astronaut, whose biggest contribution to aerospace was being the first man to walk on the moon on July 21st, 1969, where he stated the famous line: “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” He had previously traveled to space on the Gemini 8 program with David Scott, who is being played by Bernthal.
Armstrong is being played by Ryan Gosling (La La Land, Blade Runner 2049), with a solid supporting cast including Claire Foy (The Lady in the Van, Wreckers), Kyle Chandler (The Wolf of Wall Street, Manchester By the Sea), and Corey Stoll (Ant-Man, The Strain). The film is being directed by the youngest Best Director Oscar winner and one of the best up and comers in Damien Chazelle, who has reunited with Gosling from La La Land and is the mind behind the intense music film Whiplash. Filming will begin in November in Atlanta, Georgia.
