Johnny Depp’s ‘City of Lies’ Loses Theatrical Release, Searches for a New Home

Just a month before its theatrical release, City of Lies, starring Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker, has been sold by Global Road Entertainment.

Although it may sound odd that the distributing company would sell off a film so close to its release, their apparent financial struggles explain exactly why they’ve made such an executive decision. The group filed for bankruptcy just a year after acquiring Open Road Entertainment and they are currently selling off multiple film including the Biggie Smalls-based crime film.

Although we may never even get to see the full film, we do know that Depp portrays detective Russell Poole and Whitaker plays a journalist who work together in an attempt to figure out what happened to the Notorious B.I.G.

The reason the film may have been so simply sold off from the company could, potentially, have to do with the assault and battery lawsuit against Depp that are bound to impede the film’s popularity and sales at least a bit.
