John Woo to Re-Imagine His Classic Film ‘The Killer’

Following their latest $23 million dollar picture Marry Me, Peacock has announced its next big movie: a revamp of John Woo’s The Killer. The Killer tells the story of an assassin near retirement who accidentally blinds a woman, and then agrees to take out a Triad boss in order to pay for the surgery the woman needs to regain her sight. The original was released in 1990 and starred Chow Yun-fat, Danny Lee, and Sally Yeh.

The movie has been in talks to be remade for years, because it became immensely popular amongst people globally and was originally made in Cantonese, so an English version is something that’s been sought out by fans since the initial release. There is no current news about casting or production dates, but what we do know is that original director and author of the screenplay John Woo will return to direct what is known as his breakthrough project.

After the release of The Killer, a lot of doors opened up for the director. He has directed films starring the likes of Tom Cruise, Jackie Chan, Nicholas Cage, and John Travolta. He even directed Mission: Impossible II. While no exact date has been announced, the updated version of The Killer is expected to be released sometime next year.
