John Wick’s Caine, starring Donnie Yen, has received a new update regarding the film’s current standings. The John Wick universe began with 2014 blockbuster John Wick starring Keanu Reeves. A franchise has been built from that movie and now the universe has begun expanding. Caine was introduced in the latest John Wick installment, John Wick: Chapter 4, with a spinoff announced earlier this year.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Chad Stahelski commented on the status of the film saying “The Donnie Yen feature, we’re building it right now. We’re in the middle of writing it right now.”
Director Stahelski also said that they are working on several projects at the moment, so it will take some time for everything to be ready. Stahleski is looking to keep the momentum going for the John Wick franchise by working on more spinoffs and sequels. Ballerina is currently in the works with an intended 2025 release which will focus on an assassin in training. There is also a television series and an anime underway.
After Caine burst onto the scene in John Wick: Chapter 4, you could not help but grow fond of the character. His popularity skyrocketed garnering enough attention for his own spinoff and to fill that void John Wick seemingly left. With the script in progress, we can expect the movie to begin filming next year.
