Lionsgate officially announced today that they are developing a sequel to last year’s surprise hit, John Wick, starring Keanu Reeves. The original followed an ex-assassin (Reeves) who is sent on a revenge rampage against a group of gangsters after they kill the dog given to him by his late wife.
The movie was a surprise hit after it generated positive word-of-mouth for its action scenes, simple story, and concise structure. It was also considered a small comeback for Reeves, whose previous movie, 47 Ronin, was a financial failure. Writer Derek Kolstad, as well as directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, will return for the project.
Reeves has a lot coming up, including Nicholas Winding Refn’s horror movie, The Neon Demon, as well as the dramas The Whole Truth and Daughter God. He’s also set to star in The Bad Batch with Jim Carrey (Dumb and Dumber). Meanwhile Stahelski and Leitch are attached to Sony’s attempt to bring Bloodshot, Harbinger, and Harbinger Wars to theaters.
