John Turturro’s perverted yet hilarious Jesus Quintana maintained a bit role in the Cohen Brothers’ 1998 cult classic The Big Lebowski, but perhaps aced his performance a bit more more than his fellow co-stars in terms of memorable comedic dialogue. After 22 years, Jesus has now received his own spin-off film- The Jesus Rolls– whose first teaser was released today, according to Deadline.
Turturro, who also wrote and directed The Jesus Rolls, transformed The Big Lebowski spinoff into a loose remake of Bertrand Blier’s 1974 film Going Places. Turturro was initially planning to keep the title Going Places but opted for The Jesus Rolls in order to properly market the film. The story centers around a trio of outcasts who dramatically transition from sexual deviants into unexpected love sages as their random acts in the past and future blow up in their faces countless times, forcing these characters to make good on their promises to others.
Bobby Cannavale and Audrey Tautou will star opposite Turturro in the film, as well as Oscar winning actors Christopher Walken and Susan Sarandon. Aside from the aforementioned stars, Jon Hamm and Pete Davidson will be cast in undisclosed roles. Screen Media intends to release the film this Friday in a limited capacity, with the wide release scheduled for late February.
