Official trailer for 'Minions & Monsters' in theaters July 1st

John Powell, the Academy Award-nominated composer behind the music for How to Train Your Dragon and Wicked, has officially been announced to be composing the score for the upcoming Minions & Monsters. The film is Powell’s third collaboration with Illumination, following his scores for The Lorax and Migration.

In addition to the previously mentioned movies, Powell has also worked on live-action features such as The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and Solo: A Star Wars Story. Powell has also worked on other animated features, including Kung Fu Panda, the Ice Age franchise, and Bolt. Powell is known to have worked on the most musical scores for animated features, having worked on 25 animated films.

Minions & Monsters is the third movie in the Despicable Me spin-off series. Between the four Despicable Me movies and the two previous Minions movies, the franchise has grossed over $5 billion worldwide. Minions & Monsters follows a group of Minions in 1920s Hollywood, who, in an attempt to make a monster movie, accidentally wreak havoc on Hollywood. The film was recently described at CinemaCon as a “love letter to classic Hollywood”. The voice cast consists of Pierre Coffin, who has voiced the Minions since the first Despicable Me movie, as well as Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges, Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, Trey Parker, Bobby Moynihan, and Phil LaMarr.

Minions & Monsters will be released in theaters on July 1.
