John Lipton of ‘Inside the Actor Studio’ Dies at Age 93

TV host and renowned acting teacher John Lipton has passed away today at 93. In his many years of life, he worked on dozens of TV series, made appearances in films, created teaching programs, and also had experience in writing and dance. He was certainly a busy, accomplished man who received many awards for his contributions to the world of acting and the arts.

Best known for series Inside the Actors Studio, which ran for more than 20 years, the series followed his quest to interview the best actors and get to the root of their technique and inner drives as actors. The series shared with aspiring actors and film aficionados the techniques of the greats, all the way up until last year. For this, he was nominated for 18 Emmys and earned a lifetime achievement awards at the 2007 Daytime Emmys.

The series began in reality with Lipton’s in-person acting programs. He created classes in New York at Pace University and The New School and soon wanted to increase access to the lessons by creating a television program that would share the wisdom with people around the world.

He is remembered by the thousands of actors and artists who have been inspired by his lessons and is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kedakai Turner.
