John Leguizamo, known for his live-action roles in films like the first two John Wick movies and Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge!, has joined the cast for Mike Flanagan’s upcoming reboot of the Exorcist franchise. Leguizamo joins a cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Diane Lane, Lawrence Fishburne, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sasha Calle, and Jacobi Jupe.
Mike Flanagan is writing, directing, and producing this new Exorcist film, and according to Flanagan himself, it promises to be a “Fresh and bold” take on the franchise. The film will be a complete reboot, unrelated to 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer, which underperformed critically and financially, prompting Flanagan to helm this new reboot. Plot details about the film are currently unknown, except that Scarlett Johansson and Jacobi Jupe will be playing mother and son. Production companies behind this new Exorcist film include Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Morgan Creek Entertainment, and Flanagan’s own production company, Red Room Pictures. Producers include Flanagan, Jason Blum, Ryan Turek, and Alexandra Magistro.
This new Exorcist reboot is set to begin production next week. Universal Pictures is currently set to release the film in theaters on March 12, 2027. John Leguizamo can be seen next in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film adaptation of The Odyssey.
