John Krasinski Joins Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit Riots Film

John Krasinski (TV’s The Office) is joining an already impressive lineup of actors for Kathryn Bigelow‘s (Zero Dark Thirty) latest tension-packed film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project will take place during five days of the Detroit Riots in 1967 that put a magnifying glass to the racial tensions brewing among the citizens and against the police during that time; it is being described as a crime thriller. The timely drama is currently in production in the Boston area.

Krasinski will be joining John Boyega (The Force Awakens), Will Poulter (The Maze Runner), Jacob Latimore (Ride Along), Algee Smith (Earth to Echo), Ben O’Toole (The Water Diviner), Jack Reynor (Sing Street), Kaitlyn Dever (Men, Women & Children), Jason Mitchell (Straight Outta Compton), and Hannah Murray (HBO’s Game of Thrones). Krasinski’s fellow cast members look to follow a youthful trend, meaning that it is likely he will either be playing a parent or a police officer. Though his role has not yet been disclosed, Krasinski suiting up as an officer wouldn’t be difficult to picture after his turn as a Benghazi soldier in 13 Hours.

Bigelow is producing with screenwriter Mark Boal while Annapurna Pictures is financing.

Known for his role as Jim Halpert on The Office series, Krasinski has since slowly begun to establish himself in new leading roles. 13 Hours introduced him as a leading action-thriller star, while his latest film The Hollars showed off his multiple talents as he stepped both in front of and behind the camera as director. Krasinski will next be starring as the famous action character Jack Ryan for a new Amazon series.
