John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place Part II will make its way to the big-screen sooner than expected thanks to lockdown restrictions easing up on movie theaters. Paramount Pictures has now set A Quiet Place’s sequel for Memorial Day Weekend (May 28, 2021) theatrical release instead of September 24th. Via Twitter, Krasinski confirmed: “They always say good things come to those who wait. Well…I think we’ve waited long enough. A QUIET PLACE PART II / MEMORIAL DAY.”
The sequel stars the same cast of Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, and Krasinski, with a new, infantile member to complete the Abbott family. The family continues their silent survival in a dystopian reality inhabited by terrifying creatures that hunt by sound. This time, they must move beyond their once-safe home and learn to quietly navigate the outside world.
A Quiet Place Part II, if anyone remembers, actually had its red-carpet premiere about a year ago (March 8, 2020), right before lockdown took full effect in the U.S. The film was immediately shelved for a smarter and safer release, which is happening sooner than originally presumed. The sequel comes with more good news, too. Instead of the requisite 90-day theatrical run, that window has been shortened to an unprecedented 45 days and will then be available to stream on the new Paramount+ platform (so, by July).
With the Biden administration’s speculation that the U.S. will have enough Covid vaccinations for every adult by the end of May, and the recent approval for NYC movie theaters to reopen with limited-capacity, theatres everywhere may have a good handle on protocol by the time of A Quiet Place Part II’s premiere. Though, like A Quiet Place, we’ll all be acclimating to a new way of existence, still familiar yet distinctly different.
