The BBC announced that John Curbishley, the former EVP of Corporate Strategy at Paramount Global, will return in the expanded role of Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer.
The position is described as:
responsibility for leading the development and delivery of the BBC’s Group strategy, transformation and performance agenda, and driving the transformation of the BBC to deliver value to all audiences.
The new title was created after Gautam Rangarajan announced his departure from the executive Group Director of Strategy and Performance position after 31 years with the British public broadcasting network.
Addressing the change, Curbishley stated:
I believe the BBC’s mission has never been more relevant than it is today, and it will be a privilege to play a part in charting its future.
Curbishley, a Harvard and Oxford graduate, acted in a senior capacity at ViacomCBS for four years. He began his media career in the BBC’s corporate strategy team and then worked at NBCUniversal followed by AccentHealth. Now, he will play an important part in the company’s upcoming charter renewal.
BBC Director General Tim Davie commented:
I’m delighted to welcome John to the BBC and to the Executive Committee. His experience and insight will provide strong leadership to our Strategy and Transformation teams during this important next phase for the BBC.
Curbishley will begin the new position in April 2025.
