The Suicide Squad and upcoming Peacemaker star John Cena is in talks to possibly star in the Taken director Pierre Morel’s next film, an action-comedy Freelance. According to Deadline, the project already has a $40 million budget allocated to the film.
The Jimmy Kimmel Live! writer Jacob Lentz will be making his film writing debut with Freelance.
Freelance follows a special forces operative (Cena) who decides to leave the Army and build a family in the United States. After several years of house payments, school drop-offs, backyard barbecues, and attempting to fit in, he chooses to come out of retirement to provide protection for a female journalist while she interviews a ruthless dictator who may or may not have ordered the attack on him and his men. When a military revolt breaks out in the middle of the interview, the three are forced to flee into the forest, where they must survive the environment, the military, and one another.
Cena is currently filming Matthew Vaughn’s action film Argylle which stars Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Samuel L. Jackson, and Bryan Cranston.
The film is set to begin production in Colombia early next year and will certainly be one of the most sought-after action films, which begins on November 1.
