Magic Mike dreamboat Joe Manganiello has joined the cast for the next Pee Wee Herman movie, which is being produced though Netflix, for distribution on the online giant’s platform. Production for the film has been underway for a while now, but Manganiello, whose casting was kept a secret until now, started on his role yesterday.
The movie, starring Paul Reubens in his famous role as Pee Wee, follows the man-child as he takes his first vacation, an epic road trip. Manganiello joins other cast members Laurence Fishburne (rumored), Leo Fitzpatrick (Broad City), Tara Buck (HBO‘s True Blood), and Erick Chavarria (Get Hard), among others. Reubens co-wrote the screenplay with Paul Rust and Joe Lee is directing the pic in his directorial debut.
The fictional character Pee Wee Herman has been featured in two television series and a film series that spanned the 80s and 90s. Manganiello’s other recent projects include the sequel Magic Mike XXL, and Tumbledown, both set for release this year. Pee Wee’s Big Holiday will be released exclusively in Netflix territories but a specific date has not been set.
