Hollywood star Jodie Foster recently spoke her opinions about working with Gen Z co-stars.
In a The Guardian interview, Foster was transparent about how she feels that today’s generation is “really annoying – especially in the workplace.” She adds, “They’re like, ‘Nah, I’m not feeling it today, I’m gonna come in at 10.30am.’ Or, like, in emails, I’ll tell them this is all grammatically incorrect, did you not check your spelling? And they’re like, ‘Why would I do that, isn’t that kind of limiting?’”
Beginning her professional career as a child star in films like Taxi Driver and Freaky Friday, Foster admits that times were different when she was growing up. When Foster met 20-year-old British actor Bella Ramsey– who is reaching stardom after her role in HBO’s The Last of Us and Game of Thrones– Foster was impressed by Ramsey’s gender-nonconforming appearance, a contrast to how Foster was allowed to present herself as a young girl. “Because we didn’t have freedom”, she says. “I was very busy understanding where I fitted in and where I wanted to be in terms of feminism. But my lens wasn’t wide enough. I lived in an incredibly segregated world.”
On a softer note of her criticism against the younger crowd, Foster spoke lovingly about her two sons Kit and Charles, who are part of Generation Z, at the 81st Golden Globes. The two-time Oscar winner said, “They have all this freedom, which is wonderful, but we didn’t have. We didn’t know we could say no, for example, and it’s just created a miraculous, confident, different, authentic people.”
