David Lowery’s long awaited Peter Pan & Wendy has announced another huge name to appear in the live-action film, comedian and actor Jim Gaffigan. Gaffigan will portray Mr. Smee, Captain Hook’s boatswain and sidekick. The cast for the film is already stacked with many well-known actors, including Jude Law as Captain Hook, Black-ish star Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell, Alexander Molony as Peter Pan and Ever Anderson as Wendy.
There’s been a lot of speculation over who would play Mr. Smee, and no one can replace Bill Thompson’s memorable take on the character. With Smee being a huge comic relief throughout the many Peter Pan reboots and sequels, it is no surprise that Gaffigan has been chosen for the role. He also has many similarities with the original Mr. Smee, and I am excited to see where he takes Smee’s character.
Peter Pan & Wendy’s official synopsis has not been released yet, but it appears to be a more classic approach, as opposed to other versions of the film, such as Hook (1991). The film was initially meant to be released and hit theaters in 2021 but due to the coronavirus pandemic, filming has been delayed a year. Now, Peter Pan & Wendy has a current release date of December 2022.
