Jillian Bell To Make Directorial Debut With ‘Summer of 69’

Hollywood star Jillian Bell is set to make her feature film directorial debut for Hulu with Summer of 69, an American High comedy starring Chole Fineman, along with a star-studded ensemble of comedy legends. The film is about the hilarious misadventures of a lovesick high school girl who seeks out the help of an exotic dancer to help her confess to her crush before graduation. The cast has TV comedy and film mainstays Sam Morelos, Charlie Day, Natalie Morales, Alex Moffat, Paula Pell, Liza Koshy, Nicole Byer, Matt Cornett, Fernando Carsa and Amalia Yoo.

In an interview with Deadline, Bell shared her excitement for the project, “It’s always been my dream to direct and I am thrilled to be telling a story about female friendship with a cast of the most talented and funny humans.” Production has begun in Syracuse, New York with the script as written by Liz Nico. The film wraps sometime next year before it hits theaters and comes to Hulu.

Bell is assisted by an array of veteran producers along with American High front runners. Multiple companies representing the actors and producers have signed on for production. This upcoming raunchy comedy will be one of many from American High, which is still coming off the success of its last few productions including Prom Dates and Migual Wants to Fight.
