Jesse Plemons Joins Christian Bale in ‘Hostiles’

Jesse Plemons (Bridge of Spies) has joined the cast of writer-director Scott Cooper’s Hostiles. Academy Award-winning actor Christian Bale (nominated for supporting actor this year for The Big Short) and Academy Award-nominated actress Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) are already on board. The news was first reported by Variety.

The story, based on a Donald Stewart (Missing) screenplay, is set in 1892 and centers on the journey of an Army captain (Bale) as he escorts a dying Cheyenne war chief and his family back to tribal lands. Pike will play a widow whose family was murdered on the plains; she joins the perilous journey. Plemons will play a member of Bale’s cavalry unit who assists the group in reaching their destination.

Cooper will produce along with John Lesher and Ken Kao, who will be financing through his Waypoint Entertainment.

Plemons collaborated with Cooper on last year’s Black Mass, the biopic on Whitey Bulger. He appeared in Bridge of Spies alongside Tom Hanks and this year’s Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actor Mark Rylance. On the small screen, Plemons was in AMC’s Breaking Bad and FX’s Fargo. He recently starred in Chris Kelly’s Other People, about a struggling comedy writer.

Production on Hostiles begins in July.
