Jermaine Fowler To Star In Netflix Comedy ‘Cocaine Hippos’

With Coming 2 America currently underway, Jermaine Fowler is occupying his time with another project, one involving hippopotamuses of all things. The actor and comedian is set to star in an upcoming Netflix comedy Cocaine Hippos, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

With a script written by Jordan VanDina, the premise of Cocaine Hippos was primarily inspired by a a shipment of hippopotamuses to Colombia from Africa in the 1980s in order to properly engulf the land surrounding the luxurious estate of drug kingpin Pablo Escobar. When Escobar was murdered in 1993, his private collection of wild beasts were auctioned off or sent to zoos across the world. The only animals not sold off were the hippos, who would later go one to become invasive species to the country of Colombia.

This unique comedy explores the journey of a group of hippos who encounter clues that lead to a treasure of Escobar’s previously believed to have been lost. The adventure shows the hippos encounter drug lords and criminals native to the region also in pursuit of Escobar’s hidden riches. Adam Goodman of Paramount will be tasked with producing the film through the Dichotomy banner alongside Matt Skiena, while Fowler will also maintain a production role.
