Jeremy Renner Discusses Snow Plow Accident On ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’

Content Warning: Graphic Discussion of Severe Injuries

For the first time since his accident, Jeremy Renner made a late-night appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about his accident and his upcoming show Rennervations. After walking onstage with a cane to a standing ovation, Renner did a little celebratory dance and sat down for the interview.

During the interview, Renner expressed his gratitude for his mother and the rest of his family staying by him through everything that he had experienced. He even shared a video co-star Paul Rudd sent to him during his recovery. When Kimmel joked that there is no question who the strongest Avenger is now, Renner quickly retorted, stating, “Scarlett Johansson.”

Last month, Renner gave a detailed account to Diane Sawyer from ABC News about the cause of the accident and the pain he felt during it. On January 1st, Renner was helping his nephew tow a Ford Raptor from the snow when it started to slide up to the latter. Panicking, Renner stepped out of the plow’s cabin, slipped on the tracks, and got run over. While his nephew was fine, Renner had to go through intensive care to help recuperate and recover from many broken bones and damaged organs. He even described being able to “see my eye with my other eye.”

His nephew, Alex, managed to avoid getting crushed by jumping into the Ford Raptor and immediately ran to get help from a neighbor’s house. The neighbors, Rich Kovach and Barb Fletcher, stayed with the actor and kept him alive for 21 minutes before the paramedics arrived, who managed to get him safely to a hospital in Reno. Once his family visited, he signed, “I’m sorry” in American Sign Language. “I mean, I did that to them,” he explained. “It is my responsibility, I feel bad that my actions had caused so much pain.”

Now, Renner is on his way to a complete recovery and has shown gratitude for being able to see his friends and loved ones again. “I got lucky in a lot of ways,” Renner says to Kimmel. “I’m happy to be here.”
