On Twitter, Netflix announced that they were going to make a new comedy movie called Don’t Look Up, which has nothing to do with the 2009 horror movie with the same name. The plot will follow two lowly astronomers who discover that an asteroid is approaching Earth and will arrive in six months. In order to save the world, the astronomers must embark on a mass media tour so that they can warn humanity about the encroaching danger.
According to MovieWeb, Don’t Look Up will be directed by Adam McKay, who is of course best known for directing comedy movies like Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Step Brothers. It’s more likely, however, that the film will be done in the vein of McKay’s more recent comedy-drama hybrids like The Big Short, and Vice. The film will star Jennifer Lawerence, who will presumably play one of the astronomers that discovers the asteroid. Lawerence is best known for playing Katniss in The Hunger Games movies, as well as her role as Mystique in the latest X-Men movies.
The Hollywood Reporter announced that principle photography for Don’t Look Up will begin this coming spring, and that Netflix plans on releasing the movie some time year. No further information has been released.
