In a recent interview with the New York Times, Jennifer Lawrence revealed that she and Amy Schumer have already began writing a screenplay together for a movie in which they will play sisters. Lawrence commented, “We’re almost done writing. It just flowed out of us. We’ve got about 100 pages right now.”
This dream team originated as a reaction to Lawrence first seeing Schumer’s Trainwreck, which has only recently begun to depart theaters after an impressive run at the box-office. The Oscar-winning actress loved the film so much that she felt compelled to write an email to Schumer, gushing: “I don’t know where to get started. I guess I should just say it: I’m in love with you.” This email turned into many back-and-forths between Lawrence and Schumer, and the pair have struck up quite a friendship in the past few months.
As for the writing process, Lawrence revealed that she and Amy “were creatively made for each other… [They] start the day off on the phone, laughing. And then [they] send each other pages. And [they] crack up.” Lawrence will soon be flying out to Chicago to meet up with Schumer and her sister Kim Caramele who helped her through the Trainwreck writing process.
This will be the first screenplay for Lawrence who described it as “the best experience of [her] life.” While the duo put the finishing touches on their script, Lawrence will also be busy with promo for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, as well as the release for her latest David O. Russell collaboration, Joy.
Schumer will be continuing with her Emmy-nominated comedy sketch series Inside Amy Schumer and promoting her stand up special directed by Chris Rock, Amy Schumer Live at The Apollo.
