The Angry Birds Movie was definitely a surprise hit, with many believing before the movie would release that it would just be another cash grab or animated flop. The film, however, featured a fun and entertaining cast and a decent story to keep the audiences interested. Sony announced that a sequel will hit cinemas on September 20, 2019, and have already begun bringing back much of the original cast. Jason Sudeikis (We’re the Millers), along with Bill Hader (Trainwreck), Josh Gad (Murder on the Orient Express), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), and Danny McBride (This Is the End) are all returning for The Angry Birds Movie 2, according to Variety. They will be joining a huge cast, the names of which are slowly being revealed.
Angry Birds franchise has easily become one of the most important video games of all time, easily defining the beginning of mobile gaming as an actual platform. After the success of both the games and the first film, it is not surprising at all that Sony would be lining up a sequel. The sequel’s cast is already quite large, featuring voices from Sterling K. Brown, Eugenio Derbez, Awkwafina, Rachel Bloom, Lil Rel Howery, and an antagonist played by famous comedian and actress Leslie Jones. It will be a fun cast for Thurop Van Orman to work with, as he will lead with a script from Peter Ackerman. Will The Angry Birds Movie 2 live up to the first film’s surprising charm?
