Jason Statham received his big break in cinema with Guy Ritchie’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, as well as Snatch. Now, following practically a 18-year hiatus, the two actors are reuniting for a new untitled project for Miramax according to Deadline. Ritchie’s upcoming action thriller was acquired from StudioCanal as the rights of a 2004 French film called Le Convoyeur, which follows a harsh and ominous character named H who operates a cash truck company whose motive is storing millions of dollars scattered throughout Los Angeles week by week.
Miramax CEO Bill Block and Ivan Atkinson will serve as the film’s producers. Ritchie’s untitled film will mark a return to his action comedy roots, as the actor-turned filmmaker has recently dabbled in fantasy and family films such as Disney’s box office hit Aladdin. Despite being a departure from his signature style, Ritchie is also currently in line to direct The Gentlemen, which stars Matthew McConaughey as a British drug kingpin looking to exit the business and a rival interested in taking over his operations.
Statham is now a standard of the action thriller genre and is coming off the heel of the Fast and Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw. The deal for the upcoming film was formulated by Patrick Knapp.
