Jason O’Mara Added to Netflix’s “Jadotville”

Jason O’Mara (Resident Evil: Extinction) has been cast in the historical drama Jadotville, according to Deadline. Set in the 1960s, it follows an Irish soldier (Jamie Dornan) who leads a standoff with his troops against French and Belgian mercenaries in the Congo. O’Mara will play Dornan’s cohort, Sgt. Jack Prendergast.

Netflix acquired the project back in February with Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey) and Guillaume Canet (Last Night) attached to star. The movie will debut on Netflix next year. The project is one of many film distribution deals for the company, including a sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, a four-picture deal with Adam Sandler, and the latest film from Cary Fukunaga (Sin Nombre).

Along with his role in the third entry of the Resident Evil franchise, O’Mara is most likely best known for his role as George Washington in the History Channel miniseries Sons of Liberty. He has also provided the voice of Batman in the recent critically-acclaimed DC animated films. Given the prestige surrounding much of Netfix’s original programming, this could be a big break for the Irish actor.

It remains to be seen whether the movie will be widely distributed outside of the streaming platform. Based on some major theater chains’ prior refusal to carry Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon II: The Green Destiny and Fukunaga’s Beasts of No Nation, that may not be likely.
