First-time filmmaker Sophia Banks’ Black Site seems to be starting out strong with some big names attached to star, including Zero Dark Thirty actor Jason Clarke, Pixels actress Michelle Monaghan, and Divergent’s Jai Courtney. The film is the first to be produced by Asbury Park Pictures, the joint venture between Thunder Road Films and Redbox Entertainment.
Black Site follows a group of officers based in a labyrinthine CIA black site who fight for their lives in a cat-and-mouse game with a notorious and highly intelligent detainee named Hatched, who escapes in order to carry out his mysterious and deadly agenda. The film’s script was written by Jinder Ho.
Banks previously worked as a fashion stylist and made a string of commercials and shorts. Her short Unresgistered premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival and her follow up, Proxy, is currently playing at festivals.
“We were huge fans of her shorts and have been looking for the right project to collaborate on,” said producer Erica Lee. “Sophia has a distinct visual approach and her take on Black Site blew us away.”
It’s currently unclear who the actors will play and when the film may hit the big screen, but it’s likely we’ll learn more in the upcoming months.
