Jared Leto broke into acting with minor roles in films like Fight Club and The Thin Red Line, but he has since gone on to gain considerable popularity and acclaim. Leto won Best Supporting Actor for his performance in 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club, and he just got off his wild run as The Joker in Suicide Squad. Unfortunately, the actor recently spoke out on the large number of his scenes that were cut from the theatrical version of the film. Despite that, Leto is already moving on to other projects.
According to Variety, Leto has joined the highly anticipated Blade Runner 2. The report did not reveal what role he will play, but this is still very exciting news, nevertheless. The sequel is being helmed by Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners), and already has Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, and Mackenzie Davis attached to star. Looking at the incredible talent that this film has, it’s almost a sure thing that this will be a phenomenal (and much deserved) sequel to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic.
Alcon Entertainment acquired the film, television and ancillary franchise rights to Blade Runner back in 2011, which allows them to produce sequels and prequels for the foreseeable future. Warner Bros. will distribute Blade Runner 2 domestically, while Sony handles the international markets.
Now that Leto has joined the cast, who knows what someone like him will bring to the film. Not only that, it will be interesting to see who he will be playing. Coming off The Joker, it’s possible he could continue to go down the villain route once again, or he may decide to take on a more benevolent character. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
Blade Runner 2 opens in U.S. theaters on October 6, 2017.
