Amongst the many hyped-up previews for this year’s San Diego Comic Con include the upcoming Aquaman trailer. This will likely prove a “make it or break it” moment as, despite two previous appearances in the DC Extended Universe, Aquaman’s solo film has seen minimal marketing. While Jason Momoa’s performance in Justice League was entertaining, fans need a compelling trailer to further invest them in the movie’s plot.
Today, however, director James Wan offered some more previews towards the film’s content via his Twitter feed. The most noticeable image showed Aquaman standing on a rocky platform commanding what appears to be a whale, all while dressed in his classic green and orange scale armor. Furthermore, whereas Justice League had the character wield a five-pronged spear, this photo showcases him holding an actual trident like he did in the comics. Anyone who looks at this image will definitely see more than a guy who “can talk to fish.”

While Justice League vaguely hinted at Arthur Curry’s strained relationship with his Atlantian heritage, Aquaman will likely force our hero to accept his birthright. The plot will involve our protagonist working alongside Mera (Amber Heard) to stop his brother Orm a.k.a. Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson) from declaring war on the surface world. Here’s hoping that the King of the Sea’s trailer manages to impress.
