Before the scandal of James Gunn’s firing from The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and ultimately Disney, Gunn was preparing to announce a horror project that he was producing for Sony. As the smoke begins to clear from the hot controversy, Gunn has finally released the title of said horror project and the new release date.
BrightBurn, previously slated to release in November of this year, is now set to see theaters on May 29, 2019 according to The Wrap. Gunn was supposed to appear at San Diego ComicCon this past summer, where he teased of presenting something “dark, sweet and special” on the Sony Panel. But alas, Gunn never appeared at the event due to the twitter storm that was brewing.
Although the plot details are still being withheld, BrightBurn will star Elizabeth Banks. Joining Banks is Gunn’s long-time friend, David Yarovesky, who will direct and producers Brian and Marc Gunn who will bring the final components together for this horror flick.
To tide you over until BrightBurn is released, look for another Sony horror film to fill the time. The Possession of Hannah Grace appears in theaters on November 30, 2018.
