DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn has addressed recent online reports claiming that the studio’s upcoming Batman feature film, The Brave and the Bold, was placed on indefinite hold.
The speculation originated on social media after filmmaker Dan Marcus claimed director Andy Muschietti (The Flash) indicated that active development on the project had been frozen pending regulatory reviews surrounding Warner Bros. Discovery’s corporate transactions. Responding directly to inquiries on Threads, Gunn dismissed the claim, stating, “It doesn’t sound like something Andy would have said, but the project is in no way on hold,” and confirmed that development across the DC Studios slate continues as scheduled.
The Brave and the Bold is set to serve as the mainline DC Universe (DCU) introduction of Batman and Bruce Wayne’s biological son, Damian Wayne (Robin). This will be distinct from Matt Reeves’ separate Elseworlds franchise starring Robert Pattinson. While the screenplay remains in active development, Muschietti has recently been attached to executive produce and direct episodes for the second season of HBO’s IT: Welcome to Derry prequel series.
The studio’s broader slate continues production across multiple film and television divisions, including the HBO series Lanterns, Gunn’s feature Man of Tomorrow, and the recently greenlit comedy series The People v. Gorilla Grodd. Meanwhile, Matt Reeves’ sequel The Batman – Part II remains on track for theatrical release in 2028, with DC Studios maintaining separation between the two concurrent cinematic portrayals of the character.
DC Studios has not yet announced a formal casting decision for Bruce Wayne or a theatrical release date for The Brave and the Bold.
