Another huge surprise to come out of DC FANDOME was the first look we got at James Gunn’s first project for DC The Suicide Squad. After the controversy a couple years back (in which James Gunn was fired from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3) Warner Bros. was quick to swoop in and scoop up Gunn for their next big project. One thing led to another, and now we are here, with a fresh take and first look at The Suicide Squad.
The panel opened up with director James Gunn answering fan questions before revealing something fans have been clamoring for for a while: the cast list reveal. Yes, we learned who was playing who in the upcoming film. Some were easy and predictable. what with John Cena playing Peacemaker and Pete Davidson playing Nightguard. What no one expected was Idris Elba playing Bloodsport and Michael Rooker playing Savant. Despite most of the cast revealed, Taika Waititi’s role in the coming project remains unknown, though it is widely speculated by fans that he will voice the role of King Shark as James Gunn only confirmed that Steve Agee played King Shark on set.
But the fun didn’t just end there. The cast then split up into two teams where they proceeded to answer questions from fans- that’s a lie. They tried doing that but they ended up just bullying Michael Rooker for ten minutes. It was all in good fun and was a blast to watch.
But the surprises don’t end there as after they stopped bullying Michael Rooker they all got together and revealed a small trailer if you could even call it that. It’s some b-roll and behind the scenes with actual shots from the movie. We got a look at what most of the cast will look. We even got some brief shots of action from King Shark and Polka Dot Man.
The Suicide Squad is set to release in August of 2021.
