As fans await the release of Man of Tomorrow, the pseudo-follow-up to 2025’s Superman, in 2027, many have speculated that unannounced characters will make secret appearances in the film. Well, James Gunn has come to fans’ aid in addressing this speculation, responding to fan’s question on the social media platform Threads. In the post, a fan asked Gunn, “Are you going to start revealing the secret characters from the Superman movie after the Green Lantern series [referring to the currently airing HBO series, Lanterns] ends?” Gunn, in turn, provided multiple response posts which collectively read:
What secret characters? It’s a movie about Lex and Clark. People shouldn’t expect substantial amounts of other characters. When I say substantial amounts, I mean both the amount of new characters and especially the time onscreen of characters who weren’t core characters from Superman (well other than Brainiac). Things have been blown way out of proportion, and most stuff is just dead wrong.
Gunn’s response reconfirms the characters already announced to be returning in Man of Tomorrow. These include characters from 2025’s Superman, including David Corenswet’s Clark Kent/Superman, Rachael Brosnahan’s Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor. In addition, Aaron Pierre has already been announced to reprise his role as John Stewart from Lanterns, as will Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, reprising the role he played in both Superman and Lanterns. It has also been previously announced that Xolo Maridueña, who played the role of Jayme Reyes in 2023’s Blue Beetle, will be reprising his role in Man of Tomorrow. Other reappearances include Milly Alcock reprising her role as Kara-El/Supergirl from this year’s Supergirl, and Isabela Merced reprising her role as Hawkgirl.
Only time will tell what other characters will appear in Man of Tomorrow when the film releases on July 9, 2027
