James Franco Struggles to Recreate Iconic Moment from Infamously Bad Film in New ‘The Disaster Artist’ Trailer

“I did not hit her. It’s not true! It’s bullsh*t! I did not hit her! I did not. Oh, hi Mark.”

That famously poor line delivery from cult writer-producer-director-actor Tommy Wiseau is brought to life by James Franco in the first trailer and teaser poster for his next directorial effort, The Disaster Artist.

Based on the book of the same name by actor Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell, the film will chronicle the true story behind the scenes of the 2003 cult classic, The Room, which has grown a following over the past decade for being the “Citizen Kane of bad movies”. Like the book, the film will be told from the point of view of Sestero, played here by Dave Franco, as he watches his college-friend Tommy create his quotably dramatic and unintentionally hilarious magnum opus of love, betrayal, rose pedals, playing football in tuxedos, and breast cancer.

Joining James and Dave Franco in the cast are Seth RogenAlison Brie, Zac Efron, Josh Hutcherson, Jacki Weaver, Ari Graynor, and Jason Mantzoukas (How to Be Single).

The Disaster Artist is set to tear audiences apart on December 8, with early screenings planned for December 1, just in time for award season.

Austin Allison: Born and raised in Tucson, AZ, I have been obsessed with cartoons, animation, and film in general for as long as I've known how to talk and draw. From Disney animation to indie movies, filmmaking was always the purest form of art to me. I majored in Film and Television Studies and minored in Studio Art at the University of Arizona. The greatest aspect of studying film was developing a creative and critical eye for a medium that I had loved for so long, but couldn't explain why I loved it until now.
