20th Century Fox’s Why Him? stars Bryan Cranston (TV’s Breaking Bad) as an adoring father to a young twenty-something girl (Zoey Deutch, Everybody Wants Some!!). When she introduces him to the supposed love of her life, an older, outlandish, internet-famous rich kid played by James Franco, he makes it his mission to destroy their developing relationship.
The film also stars comedians Megan Mullally (TV’s Will and Grace), Adam DeVine (Pitch Perfect) and Keegan-Michael Key (Keanu). The comedy is co-written and directed by John Hamburg (I Love You, Man, Along Came Polly) and will hit theaters on Christmas Day of this year.
The trailer showcases all of the stereotypical Franco behaviors of recent years – i.e. the unpredictable and quirky artistic freedom he has built much of his media persona around. Cranston looks to be a strong match to his zany antics, seeing as how the Golden Globe winner has done his fare share of similar performances both in Breaking Bad and Malcolm in the Middle. Although he will be playing the straight man next to Franco, it wouldn’t be surprising if he brought his own brand of wild to the film’s festivities.
