The Ghostbusters team has a new technology wiz in the building. Empire Magazine has recently released a photo of actor and podcast host James Acaster joining the ghost-fighting team for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
Jason Reitman, writer-producer for the film and director of the previous film in the series, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, says that Acaster’s character is named Lars Pinfield, who is responsible for the new technology used by the Ghostbusters team.
Reitman told Variety that although Lars isn’t related to Egon Spengler, one of the core Ghostbusters and technology masterminds in the original movies, Lars is in line with the Egon Spengler type.
New characters aren’t the only thing that is going to make it onto the big screen, as according to ComicBook.com, original Ghostbusters Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) and receptionist Janine Melnitz (Annie Potts) are all going to have parts in the new film and are heading back to New York where it all began.
Fans of the series will even see these legacy characters be put in new situations, as it was confirmed that Janine will be suiting up for the first time to fend off the ghosts in this adventure.
Frozen Empire director Gil Kenan says that since the ending of the previous film closed the door on the original films’ narratives, it gave the writers and him the ability to create a new mythology, leading to new and horrifying stakes for the characters to be put in, according to ComicBook.com.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will be haunting theaters on March 22.
