Jake Gyllenhaal in Talks to Join ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Sequel

Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to play the purple-cape-wearing villain Mysterio in the sequel to Spider Man: Homecoming. Quentin Beck, alias Mysterio, was introduced by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1964 as a special-effects expert who committed crimes using his illusion-making skills.

Jon Watts, director of the first Spider-Man: Homecoming, will be directing the sequel, and Tom Holland returns to the role of Spider-Man. If Gyllenhaal comes on, he will be joining Michael Keaton’s villain, Vulture, from the first film.

The sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to be released July 5, 2019 by Marvel and Sony.

If you can’t wait for Homecoming, you can catch Into the Spider-Verse, the next spider-installment that features Miles Morales among a cast of other spider-folks, in theaters on December 14 of this year. Gyllenhaal can next be seen in Paul Dano’s Wildlife, Dan Gilroy’s Velvet Buzzsaw, and Luca Guadagnino’s Let it Fall Back.

Sandro Ortega: Sandro Ortega is a writer and illustrator originally from Nicaragua and now pursuing a degree in English in Claremont, California. His work can be found in Entropy Magazine and other publications online and in print. He has worked at the Academy of American Poets and as an editor for the Scripps College Journal.
