Eli Roth’s adaptation of the popular video game Borderlands has been disclosing an impressive cast that so far includes big names such as Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Cate Blanchett, and today, another household name has joined the cast: Jack Black. Black will play the overenthusiastic robot Claptrap. When interviewing with The Hollywood Reporter, Roth stated, “I am so excited to reunite with Jack, this time in the recording booth. Claptrap is the funniest character in the game, and Jack is perfect to bring him to the big screen.”
Although Claptrap isn’t a playable character in the video game franchise, the robot who looks like a garbage disposal is one of the most beloved characters in the game. With Claptrap often being described as the best character in the franchise, Jack Black appears to be the perfect choice for this role. Along with Black, Blanchett will play Lilith, a “…siren and legendary thief equipped with magical skills,” Hart will play the role of soldier Roland, and Jamie Lee Curtis is Pandoran archaeologist Patricia Tannis. Roth will be directing from a script by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl), with Avi Arad and Ari Arad producing alongside Erik Feig. There is no release date yet, but filming is said to begin soon.
