Filmmaker J.C. Chandor (All is Lost, A Most Violent Year), who was in early discussions to direct Triple Frontier, has now closed the deal officially to spearhead the Paramount Pictures drama according to Deadline.
Triple Frontier, also known as Sleeping Dogs, was intended to be directed by Kathryn Bigelow, the director of Zero Dark Thirty but now the project is moving forward with Chandor at the helm.
Chandor has written and directed the films Margin Call (for which he earned an Oscar nomination for his screenplay) and All is Lost, both of which received critical acclaim. Chandor followed those films up with last years’ A Most Violent Year, a crime drama starring Oscar Isaac (Ex Machina) and Jessica Chastain (The Martian), in which he wrote, produced, and directed.
The screenplay for Triple Frontier was written by Zero Dark Thirty and The Hurt Locker screenwriter Mark Boal. The premise has been closely guarded but it is set in the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil. It will reportedly feature five main roles. Chandor is also set to produce and direct the A24 film adaption of Vicky Ward’s, The Liar’s Ball which is still in development.
