Mia Wasikowska (Crimson Peak) returns as Alice, as does Johnny Depp (Black Mass) as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter (Suffragette) as the Red Queen and Anne Hathway (The Intern) as the White Queen. Tim Burton directed the first feature- released in the spring of 2010- helping the launch the mining of Disney’s animated canon into live action films. Since then, successful transfers have included Maleficent (2014) and Cinderella (2015) with many more on the way. Burton’s won two Academy Awards (for Best Production Design and Best Costume Design) and earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
Burton opted not to return for Alice Through the Looking Glass– instead James Bobin (The Muppets) took over the reins of the franchise, however screenwriter Linda Woolverton (Beauty and the Beast) returns. Newcomers in the ensemble include Sasha Baron Cohen (Sweeney Todd), Andrew Scott (Pride) and Rhys Ifans (Serena) and Alan Rickman (A Little Chaos), Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex), Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner), Stephen Fry (Wilde) and Toby Jones (Infamous) comprise the talents lending their voices.
Alice Through the Looking Glass will hit theaters on May 27, 2016.
