‘IT: Chapter Two’ to put Ritual of Chüd Into Film

For anyone who has read Stephen King’s IT, it is not difficult to think of some especially unusual or even inappropriate moments within the 1,138 page horror book. In fact, one sequence in the original story was removed from the 2017 film on account of the fact that it portrayed underage sexual acts between the boys of the Loser’s Club and their lone female member, Beverly.

The reasoning behind ridding of this scene in IT is quite clear and needs no explanation, but the second film will be attempting to bring to life a scene that isn’t outrageous and inappropriate like the previously stated one, but is certainly going to be difficult to bring into cinematic imagery.

Gary Dauberman, the screenwriter of the film series, stated the following about his work toward bringing the Ritual of Chüd (a battle of psychic wills that involves the overlapping of the Loser’s Club’s tongues and the exchanging of jokes) to life:

“The Ritual of Chüd is challenging, but it’s such an important component to the book that we had to address it. That stuff is difficult to balance, but because [director Andy Muschietti, producer Barbara Muschietti and I] worked with each other before, when I’m writing pages and all that stuff it becomes more of a conversation and less like, ‘Hey, here’s what I did.’ It’s sort of organic; it’s really kind of just chipping away at the stone and trying to find the most focused, accessible way into some of more metaphysical aspects of that book.”

The Ritual will not be the only difficult scene to be portrayed in IT: Chapter Two. According to recently released images from the set and Dauberman’s hints, the film will also show the giant statue of Paul Bunyon coming to life as well as the disturbing murder of Adrian Mellon that opens King’s original telling of the story.

We are so excited to hear more about this much anticipated sequel to the $700 million box office hit, and we will keep updates on all future information on the film.
