Disney has had a lot of success with their live action remakes of their animated movies. Several more live action remakes are currently in the works including a remake of one of the studios 90’s movie, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. As the title suggests this movie is based on the 1831 novel of the same name by French author Victor Hugo, who also wrote Les Miserables.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame is very unique for an animated Disney movie. When it was initially released many people were put off by the movie’s dark tone and mature themes, but in recent years the film is seeing a renewed interest because of its maturity. Also animation fans are starting to appreciate it more. The movie also features the first LGBT+ Disney character, which is the male gargoyle that Jason Alexander plays who is romantically interested in a male goat.
Since Disney first announced The Hunchback of Notre Dame remake not a lot of information has been revealed about the movie. However according a recent Twitter post, actor Josh Gad has revealed that an update of the movie is about to come out. Gad was announced as a producer on the movie, but many Disney fans are speculating that he will be playing the bell ringing Quasimodo, who is the titular hunchback.
Getting. Closer. And. Closer.

As of right now none of the movie’s cast members have been announced. Unfortunately we know that the late actress Mary Wickes will not be reprising her role as one of the gargoyles nor will the late actor Tony Jay reprise his legendary villainous role of Judge Claude Frollo. Perhaps Disney is struggling to find an actor who can sing “Hellfire” as well as Jay!
