‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Trailer

A surprise attack hit the web today in the form of the trailer for next’s summer tentpole extravaganza Independence Day: Resurgence. A sequel to Roland Emmerich’s 1996 alien invasion epic Independence Day once again puts Earth in danger of extraterrestrial baddies. Retaining much of the original cast (with the exception of one major A-list star), Independence Day: Resurgence will invade movie screens on June 24, 2016, nearly twenty years to the date of the first entry of the franchise.

Set twenty years after devastating invasion encountered in the first film, Independence Day: Resurgence finds a new alien threat. Emmerich (Stonewall) returns as director and Carter Blanchard wrote the screenplay. Original ID4 players Bill Pullman (American Ultra), Jeff Goldblum (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Brent Spiner, Judd Hirsch and Vivica A. Fox return alongside franchise newcomers Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), Charlotte Gainsbourg (I’m Not There), Sela Ward (Gone Girl) and Joey King (White House Down).

The first film became one the biggest summer entries of all-time, minted over $800 million at the worldwide box office. Independence Day: Resurgence opens on June 24, 2016. Check out the trailer below:
