Elba seems to be getting his due as of late with getting leads in blockbusters such as this and The Suicide Squad. Elba had always been in huge MCU blockbusters of the past, but as a supporting side character. However, with the release of the prior movies as well as Concrete Cowboy, Elba is cementing himself as an A-lister.
His co-star Ben Schwartz, who voices Sonic, took to his social media to confirm this news.

Elba and Schwartz seem like an unlikely duo, but it is clear that the two are having fun already.

Knuckles is one of the most well-known Sonic the Hedgehog characters and not the only one making their full debut in the sequel. In addition to Knuckles being confirmed, Tails will also appear in the sequel that started production just about five months ago.
In addition to Elba and Schwartz, returning for the sequel are Jim Carrey as Doctor Robotnik and James Marsden and Tika Sumpter as Tom and Maddie Wachowski, respectively.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set for an April 8, 2022 release date.
