With a new Lord Of The Rings film recently confirmed, under the working title The Hunt For Gollum, an old fan film saw a spot of trouble with Warner Bros. The fan film happened to share the same name as the working title, and the same subject the film is speculated to have.
As suggested, the fan film and the new project follow Gandalf the Gray and Aragorn trying to hunt down Gollum, a twisted and disfigured hobbit with an affinity for the One Ring. The heroes must find Gollum and figure out what he knows about the Ring before the enemy can get their hands on him.
Entertainment Weekly revealed that when Warner Bros. Discovery announced the new installment, the fan film became unviewable on YouTube.
Despite the fan film relating to a copyrighted property, Variety reports that those behind it made it explicitly clear before the feature starts that it was in no way meant to make a profit off of, and shares no link to Tolkien in any way. They also made it clear that the project was made, plain and simple, for the enjoyment of both the creators and the viewer.
Come the next morning, the fan-created Hunt For Gollum was available to watch again.
The upcoming film will star Andy Serkis, who is also directing. Peter Jackson will serve as a producer, next to Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.
