Deadline previously reported that Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania: Transformania will be heading to a streaming service and not theaters to compete with Addams Family 2. But what streaming service was going to get the monster family franchise that generated more than $1.3 billion worldwide?
Well, now it is looking like Amazon might just be that streaming service.
Variety has learned exclusively that Sony and Amazon are close to a deal for more than $100 million.
No deal between Sony and Amazon has been confirmed yet, so there is still a chance that Hotel Transylvania: Transformania will go to another streaming service instead.
A source familiar with the deal between Sony and Amazon told Variety that Sony would retain rights to home entertainment, linear TV, and Chinese exhibition.
Hotel Transylvania: Transformania has Drac and his monster buddies back again but with a twist. When Van Helsing’s (Jim Gaffigan) strange invention, the ‘Monsterification Ray,’ malfunctions, Drac (Brian Hull, replacing Adam Sandler) and his monster friends are all transformed into a human, all the while Johnny (Andy Samberg) gets transformed into a monster (crazy, right?). With Drac, stripped of his powers and an enthusiastic Johnny, who is just loving life as a monster, must partner up and race across the world to discover a cure before it’s too late. With the help from Mavis (Selena Gomez) and Drac’s monster friends turned human, they race to transform themselves back before it becomes permanent.
