Horror Thriller ‘Us’ Set to Open SXSW Film Festival

Jordan Peele’s directorial debut Get Out was massive success not only critically but also financially. The film received numerous awards including Oscars for best screenplay and was nominated for best picture; while also grossing over $255 million dollars worldwide. With a considerable amount of talent displayed, the whole world has been anticipating Peele’s next film, Us.

Keeping all this in mind, it’s no surprise when Variety announced that Us would be the opening movie for the SXSW Film Festival. Variety even revealed that the director of film for the festival, Janet Pierson stated “We are crazy excited to world premiere the most anticipated film of 2019 from the creative powerhouse that brought us ‘Get out.’ We honestly couldn’t imagine a more perfect film to kick off the 2019 SXSW Film Festival.”

The film revolves around a family that goes to a beach house only to find that their doppelgangers have come to haunt them. It stars Lupita Nyong’o (Black Panther), Winston Duke (Avengers: Infinity War), Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) and is introducing Shahadi Wright Joseph and Evan Alex in their first feature film. The trailer was only released two weeks ago but was able to create a very creepy atmosphere and a compelling backdrop for this disturbing and gripping story.

The film launches on March 15, 2019.

Keidan Chavez: I am an undergraduate attending Whittier College majoring in screen writing and journalism. I love to watch movies, play Red Dead Redemption 2 and read whenever I get the chance. I will watch anything related to Wright, Tarantino, The Coen Brothers or Nolan. I will also play anything made by Naughty Dog or Rockstar Games. I love being able to experience great stories, especially when I am able to share that experience with others. I also love learning about movies and sharing that knowledge to those that are just as passionate.
