Various Hollywood studios and producers are following the health and safety guidelines set by the federal government. Actors and crew members are obliged to show proof of vaccination or negative COVID-test when working on set.
Film studios have a definite schedule to follow and are pushing forward to meet their deadlines. During the pandemic, it has become increasingly difficult to meet those deadlines. Following the mandate that was issued on November 8, crew and actors alike should get vaccinated if they want to keep working on set. Especially the ones working in Zone A on a film shoot, that is the zone designated for employees who have to work in close proximity. The situation is not to be underestimated as one producer has stated to The Hollywood Reporter, “We will not engage with anyone who is not vaccinated.”
For the most part, people have been following safety guidelines and getting vaccinated or at the least getting their negative COVID-test before working on set. But there have been cases of non-compliant actors, most notably Ice Cube. The rapper and producer has recently turned down a project with Sony, allegedly losing him a $9 million payday.
More headaches await studios that work with actors that are not getting vaccinated. Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Letitia Wright who will be reprising her role as King T’Challa’s sister Shuri is currently at home in London, unvaccinated.
According to the mandate of November 8, all non-citizens who want to enter the US must possess proof of vaccination. It is yet unclear how the Wright intends to infiltrate the country without such proof. Disney has yet to comment on the issue at hand. Though these situations are only one of many as the world, including Hollywood, tries to mandate stricter vaccine mandates.
