Hollywood Icon Sean Connery Dead Aged 90

One of Hollywood’s most recognizable figures passed away this morning. Sir Sean Connery, the Scottish actor behind the original portrayal of the emblematic character James Bond, died in the Bahamas peacefully in his sleep, having been feeling “unwell for some time” according to his son. He leaves behind Micheline, his wife, and two sons Jason and Stephane. According to his son, the actor had alongside him “many of his family, who could be in the Bahamas, around him” describing what happened as “A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor.”

His legacy is one for the ages, with a career spanning over 5 decades of professional acting along with an Oscar win in 1988 for his role in The Untouchables. The current actor behind James Bond, Daniel Craig, took some time to remember Sean Connery’s impact in the movie industry calling him “one of the true greats of cinema” and someone that “helped create the modern blockbuster” with his defining style and wit.

His impact transcended the big screen, however. He was a strong advocate of Scottish independence and his patriotism is remembered by the likes of Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon who referred to the movie legend as one of Scotland’s “best-loved sons.” He went on to say that Connery “was a global legend but, first and foremost, a patriotic and proud Scot.”

Movie fans all over the world mourn this great loss and remember Sir Sean Connery’s amazing accomplishments, lending their thoughts to his family and loved ones during these hard times
