CinemaCon unveiled a new look at a highly anticipated reboot. A full presentation was given for Highlander, the latest installment in the iconic fantasy/adventure franchise.
With the first film releasing in 1986, Highlander follows a Scottish warrior born in the early 1500s who finds out he possesses a rare trait: he is immortal. As he ventures on a path to bring down other immortal beings, he’s led to a final conflict in 1980s New York, where he’s faced with the biggest challenge of his long life.
The upcoming Highlander will see Henry Cavill take up the role of Connor MacLeod, the immortal warrior. Known for his work in projects like Man Of Steel and The Witcher, Cavill was actually present at CinemaCon to unveil footage during the Amazon MGM presentation. The film’s director, Chad Stahelski, was not in attendance during the presentation. Highlander will mark Stahelski’s first directorial work outside of the world of John Wick, as he helmed the four main movies in the franchise up to this point.
Hollywood Reporter gave a breakdown on some of the footage shown to CinemaCon attendees, and noted several moments during the presentation itself. One noted occurrence was Cavill speaking about the film as a whole, saying that the cast and crew feels that they “are creating something truly special,” even with production still having a ways to go.
