Based on the Olivier and Tony award-winning musical of the same name, Matilda the Musical is Netflix’s homage to Roald Dahl’s widely acclaimed children novel Matilda. Alisha Weir stars as Matilda, a child prodigy who uses her intelligence and telekinesis power to rebel against her neglectful family and oppressive headmistress Miss Trunchbull, played by Emma Thompson who was previously in the role of the evil Baroness in the 2021 movie Cruella. The teaser is accompanied by the iconic musical’s song ‘Revolting Children.’

As the gates of Crunchem Hall open, the viewer is immediately drawn to Matilda’s world which completely contrasts her bold and inquisitive character. Miss Trunchbull, who wants to teach “criminals” like Matilda a lesson, asserts her authority through her merciless attitude and punishments such as spinning a child and throwing it in the air. Even so, Matilda stands her ground (no pun intended) and is ready to disobey her headmaster no matter the consequences.

Matilda the Musical comes out this holiday season, and it will premiere in U.K. theaters on December 2.

My interests range from data science to finance to trends in the entertainment industry. When it comes to movies, I am always down for a good social commentary or a psychological thriller. K-dramas are also on my watchlist. In my free time I enjoy going outdoors and reading the works of Haruki Murakami, Kurt Vonnegut, and others.
